gauge cluster swap?
I'm looking to try installing a tachometer in my truck...99 f150 4.2v6 automatic. Before going to an aftermarket tach, does anyone know if it's possible to install a guage cluster with a tach into the truck? If I got one from a junkyard or something....I'm wondering it all the wires are there like there seems to be for other options that are not installed....Any help?

i want to do the same thing in my f150. from what people have told me it will work, but your odometer will read whatever the new cluster had. somebody told me you can then switch the odometers so that you have the correct reading.

I haven't actually looked into it any more than posting here....I haven't found a cluster yet. So from what you've heard, it will just be a plug-in? Is changing the odometer as easy as that even on a 99?

from what i hear it is not easy to get into the gauge clusters. I wanted to put on some custom bezels in my 99 and i couldnt get the dash off. I took it to my local shop and they said that you have to take everything off, they said like $70 if they did it. just to install them.

I Took the cluster out of my 98 to replace the light bulbs, and I didn't think it was that bad of a job. Just get a shop manual that has good pictures and go from there. there's only about 3 pieces to remove.
