My 1997 F250 4X4 with a 7.3L Diesel has gone through 5 PCMs and two alternators in the past 2+ years. The problem has been escalated to Ford Engineering without any definitive answers or resolution. Has anyone experienced anything like this with their Ford? If so, was it resolved?

 

Five pcm's in 2+ years? I've never heard of that. What have you been told is causing the pcm's to burn up?

 

I can just picture the dealer now --- "Honest mr vehicle owner, this is the first time this has ever happened." Must be some type of electrical problem that is causing the pcm to short out and cause the other problems to happen. Try looking for a pinched wire and when you find it ... dont tell the dealer for "free" anyway.

 

Before there were PCM problems, the glowplug circuit would cause the "Check Engine Light" to come on, on a regular basis. Once the glowplug circuit problem was addressed, the other electrical problems compound themselves and affected the PCM.
Apparently there is a Ford Service Bulletin that deals specifically with a voltage drop in the glowplug circuit and the affect that single circuit has on the PCM. There is also another little known Ford Service Bulletin that specifically address the ground to the PCM and a ground to the chassis. I've had every wiring harness taken apart, inspected and cleaned by the Dealer when the PCM reported at least 18 seperate faults in the circuitry of the truck.
What we have is a reliability problem that concerns us. Are you aware of any workarounds? Thanks.
