Aiming Stock Headlights

Just bought a 1998 F-150 XLT 2WD, and the headlights are aimed to high. Need to point them down a little bit. Has anyone done this. All my previous vehicles had screws accessable from the front to adjust. I can't seem to find the same on this truck.

Pop the hood and look at the back of the headlamps. You will see some metal hex screws (for lack of a better word) sticking out . These go thru some black plastic pieces that hold the lamp into the support. You need a small open or closed end wrench to do the adjustment. I think it's something like 3 or 4 mm.

Thanks kingfish51,
I thought those might be the ones, since they are the only "screws" I could see. As far as I can tell there are three adjusting "screws". Didn't want to turn them without some explanation of what they are.

Do I need to pull up on the clips before turning the screw, or should I leave them locked in place while aiming the lights?

I checked Chilton's manual and there is no description of how to actually do it. They just give a rough diagram of where they should be aiming. Then say to have them checked by a repair shop.

You don't need to do anything but turn them. They are easy to do.

I'll get 'em done when my wife brings the truck home from work.

Thanks again Kingfish

Kingfish,
I have a 2000 Ford explorer xls, and I'm having the same
problem, I have located only one hex type adjuster. I did
try to adjust both ways and nothing seemed to change.
Do you know about how many turns it would take to effect
change for the lights?
Thanks,
dtp

I am not sure how many turns it takes. I don't have my 01 anymore to look at. There are 3 that can be adjusted, behind the light. One is at the top, the other 2 are down farther.
