I'm curious if anyone has used Z-MAX additives at all. I've used PROLONG before and had amazing results. I'm just looking for some input on the product please.

 

Can we say "snake oil"?

 

I used on an engine of mine, heres the entire story. The engine ended blowing but i think because of using fram filters. It was a 97 chevy 2500 with a 350, never really beat, but never babied either. When I was changing the oil, i changed it at 3000 with mobil drive clean oil, with the junk fram filter because i did not know any better. We had a friend which was a dealer, we put it in, and the motor ran about 15 degrees cooler than normal, got 2 more MPG. I do not know if it was the Z-MAX that blew it up or not. It blew at 121,352. My stepfather moved to Iowa, before i moved there, and he was changing oil every 8,000 miles, with a fram filter, because his dad was, but his dad was using valvoline synthetic. I think it was a combination of the extended oil change intervals and the fram filters is what blew it up. We were driving from des moines to Madison, and at debuque, we lost oil pressure, then the motor hatched, because my mother does not pay attendtion to gauges. I think the filter collapsed and that caused the motor failure, i will never use a fram filter again, if no other reason, because there is better out there, but the engine ran great with the ZMAX, but i do not know if that had anything to do with the motor blowing on me. Kind of off the subject, does anyone know of a place which will professionally inspect an oil filter to see if it caused engine failure?

 

I have heard bad things about ZMax. I would not use it myself. Please read the following from the FTC.
