Hello all out in FTE cyber land, I have a question, I am looking to get a new laptop because my current Vaio is in a state of perpetual nose dive and I want your opinion. What do you think of the Acer Travelmate 283LC? is it good? or should I keep looking? All of you in Canada chime in here, because it happens to be manufactured in your lovely country.
I had access to an awesome Dell Inspiron 5100, which easily competes with most desktop systems, plus its still pretty light. They run about $1200 with a 4 year warranty. $900 without.
Ok, then take a look at what Alien has to offer. They are expensive, but they are the best that you can buy, since laptops are much harder to build than a desktop.
I'd have to suggest a Dell, I don't have any laptops, but my Dell desktop is the best computer I've had so far, and a pretty fair price. My dad has a gateway laptop, and that things a piece of junk.
One other thing I didn't get from the original post...
Is this a desktop replacement? A laptop to take travelling often? A unit for school/work? Whats the function. The largest part of the decision of "which" notebook resides on what use your putting it to.
Dells are useless if you want a power computer (Don't go advocating how great Dells are as power computers...It'll take me 2 seconds to spec something out that Dell can't even touch as an "end user" machine for portable or desktop) but at the same time Dell makes some good middle of the road notebooks (and pc's, though I'd prefer to use IBM when I am shopping in "that market")
If you need a power computer thats replacing your desktop the unit I bought isn't the best choice. The one I bought fits in the "slim and fast category" I can get up to 4 hours battery life on low power mode, yet in normal mode I can run alot of games decently (note: the video card/chip in this notebook sucks crap. But with the ram and processor speed etc; it has I can do a large number of office apps simutaneously...and since my home pc has enough power to blow the socks off of most computers I see advertised at the local computer stores...a gaming laptop wasn't what I needed)
There is a company on ebay called err I dont remember. They sell laptops by a company called ECS though and if you search for that you'll find what I am talking about.
You can order a p4-3.0Ghz laptop with a gig of ram, a 7200 rpm hard drive a 17" screen (or 15") etc; etc; etc; (dvd-rw), problems: weighs almost 10LBS, the heat is disgusting I wouldn't use anywhere except a non-flammable desk, warranty issues are hard to resolve...has to be sent to the seller, then he forwards to california. I know someone waiting to get there unit that overheated back.
Anyway, I am sorry if this post started getting long but I can help in pretty much any area with great detail, not only do I sell laptops regularly but I spent over a month researching my personal purchase (which alot of deep comparisons were made in regards to as I have a 5 year turn around on notebooks...)
