I personally like drug testing. I work construction for the Union and every job we go on requires pre job testing and monthly testing with randoms in between. With all the machinery and tools we deal with on the sites I find it rather pleasing to know the guy beside me isnt wasted.
Funny how the CIA experiments testing random drugs, on volunteers like Ken Kesey, ushered in the '60's drug use explosion, , now random drug tests are common place. Testing random drugs, what a job.
I personaly am all for Random drug tests and if I ever own my own buisness then you can bet that every one of my employees will be tested upon inital hire and any time I see fit after that.
Right now I work in some dangerous industrys, I am a farmer year round, run heavy equipment during the summer, and during the winter I work on HVAC equipment, and run logging equipment. I don't want any stoned or drunk people around me. If you mess up on any of these jobs you run the risk of hurting or killing me, yourself, and others. I dont want that to happen to me and I am sure that no one else dose either.
If you look at my group of friends none of us are heavy drinkers, none of us do any illegal drugs, and not one of us has any problem with drug testing. In fact the only people that I have personaly (my observation only not true in every case) seen that have a problem with drug testing are the ones that I fired when I was a night shift supervisor at a local factory because their tests came back postive for drug use.
I am not hear to debate the morals of any person, but I just dont want you around me if you are stoned, plain and simple.
How would any of you feel about having to test negative on a test that showed if you'd had a drop of alcohol in the last 30 days or more regardless of whether in was at work or on your own time? And if you tested positive you'd be prosecuted as if you were blind stinkin' drunk on the job.

I'm with you, sinjin. What I do at home or at "play" is no one's business but my own. To answer your question: I would dislike it very much.

I guess you've touched on my point exactly. I don't believe having a drink makes you an alcoholic. And I don't believe smokin' a little now and then makes you a drug addict. The point is that the test for the presence of THC in your blood only means you've done it sometime in the last few months. How does that make you a safety liability on the job? I just believe whatever you do to relax is none of my business as long as you show up to work with most of your faculties intact. BTW I feel those holding the lives of others in their hands is a special group and should be held to a tighter standard.
I agree that the occasional toker or drinker don't necessarily create any safety hazzard. However. The problems is the individual that does use on the job, be it drugs ar alcohol has created the need to test. Are we supposed to wait until they splatter someone all over the place to take action? I think not.
