Radar detectors

What does everyone use?

I'm planning to get one soon, but I dont know -which- one. I've heard excellent things about the Valentine 1, and the 'Phaser'.

Opinions?

IMHO, they're a waste of money. A CB is better.

Very true, especially on the interstates. You can get most any radar or traffic info by just listening to the truckers.

Radar detectors around town may help warn you, but, you get a heck of a lot of false warnings.

I've got a Cobra 9100 w/weather radio. its great...saved me several times...I kinda have a heavy foot... plus I like knowing if the weather turns ugly, I can tune in to find out what kind of trouble I'm really in

only bad thing about em...depending on where you are, some of the law inforcement have finally gotten wise and turn their radar off and on to nab people. its got its pros and cons, but it does help...I bought it on Ebay brand new in the package for like $55. check there first.

I am a certified radar instructor. Take my advice and save your money because by the time the device alerts you 9 times out of ten with the latest radar and lasar you're already CAUGHT or very close to being caught. NEVER drive more then 8 miles over the limit on the freeway ans never more then 5 in town. But in a school zone 20 PERIOD.

I gave up on them a long time back but if you want to read some opinions on actual models of detectors check this out:

I'll second the CB option. As far as I know they're legal in all states, and radar detectors aren't.

i dont need a radar deceting device, i have one built into my head. It really strange, somewhere between me driving 1 million and two million miles is just sort of started happening. i can tell when there is radar near, i can tell when there is lazer near and i always can tell when there is police protection around. my driving record speaks for itself, you wont find a speeding ticket anywhere on there, i will be driving down the highway on my way to a delivery and then this funny feeling starts in my arm, then it goes to my ears and when it starts traveling around to my eyes i slow down, usually les then two minutes later i will either see a cop who is clocking me, or one of them warning signs with built in radar. i dont think the radar signal or laser signal is effecting me anyhow, i just think i got my own built in radar now. kinda nice since us big trucks are not allowed to us them anymore

I have that too Opiewan but slightly different.
Mine works in brain to the foot only.

I'd get those neuro-sensors checked.

I have a radar detector and a CB. The radar detector really does work, no matter what cops and radar detector trainers tell you. But you already know they work because you want one. Your question was which one to get, not if to get one. I personally like whistler. They have always held up. My dad used to be a trucker and i rode several hundred thousand mile with him, with the whistler going the whole time. He has driven over 4 million miles and never had one speeding ticket. I have had two, but none since i got my radar detector. Whistlers are also good because they are availablr in a wide range of price ranges. Mine was $40 at walmart, and comes with several radar bands, and laser and V-G2, which turns it off if it detects a cop searching for radar detectors. Perfect where they are illegal.

Very true. I had a radar detector for a few years, until I got a ticket with it. LOL....I have started relying heavily on my cb. Big rigs are always great help on the interstates.
