I recently have a problem when I go to start my truck it will start up, sputter and quit. Then when you go to restart it will either start right up or do the same thing again. It only seems to do it when it is cold. Anyone else have this??
I have a couple posts about it and another guy on here with a post title about Warranty work has the same problem. It seems that at least one person has had a sensor, I believe, replaced. The Idle Air Control is what is suspected to be the problem. Like I said in another post I am afraid I wouldn't be able to get it to do it if I was at the dealership so I am just waiting for it to happen again and have the roadside assistance people come and get it. Mine has not been so much with cold weather, but rather when it is damp out. Keep us posted on anything you find out.
Mine was doing this every now and then for a few weeks. It would usually do it when it hadn't been started for awhile. If I pressed on the gas for a few seconds while starting it, it would be ok. Then, this past Tuesday, it wouldn't remain running. As soon as I took my foot off the gas it would stall. I drove it to my buddy's shop (1 foot on the brake, 1 on the gas) and did a diagnostic. No codes, but the throttle was only at 18%. Turned out to be the throttle sensor. Sounds like you might have the same problem. The part was $35.00. By the way, I have a 2000 F-250 5.4
I don't know if the weather affects it. When it finally quit, it had been pouring rain for 2 days straight. All the other times that it would start and stall it was dry and hot out.
I got it fixed. I took the solenoid out that controls the idle circuit and cleaned it up with carb. cleaner and so far so good. There was a plunger in there that was stuck and gummed up with carbon. The local dealer told me to try cleaning it first otherwise to get a new one. So far it is ok!!
My truck has 1000 miles on it. Today I turned the key and all I got was a click, one more turn, another click. The third time it started. I tried many more times. It started every time after that. What do you think?
