1997 Explorer Trailer Plug wont work

1997 Explorer Trailer Plug wont work
Hello all, I have a 1997 Explorer 5.0 AWD Eddie Bauer, and I installed the 4 flat trailer plug and after hooking it all up everything worked fine. came home with the trailer after a trip and now the trailer lights don't work. all the lights on the explorer seem fine. but put a tester on the trailer plug and nothing. Does any body know where the fuse for this would be?
and should this be tied into the Tail lights? the tail lights and signals all still work on the explorer.
I hooked the same trailer up to my Ranger and blew out the fuse in 10 minutes so I think I have a short in the trailer harness. but before I worry about that I need to get the Plug working on the Explorer again.
thanks for your help. and I am pretty sure this fuse would be in the bank of fuse's by the drivers door?
and not the bank of fuse's under the hood they are all for the engine correct?
