In both my 2000 econoline 5.4 and my 2003 F150 4.6, when I start them at or below about 10 degrees, they make a noticable whirring noise for the 1 or 2 seconds that the engine revs up (on its own) right after starting.
I am using the Motocraft 5w20 semi synthetic in both.
Is it damaging these engines starting them in this extreme cold we are having here in the NE? It will be about 10 below zero when i start them tomorrow. Is it OK with the 5w20 and no block heater?
