I checked all around and finally think i found some seepage of coolant out of the bottom of the crankase in the front of the engine. Been smellin coolant for a while now. haven't gotten any in the oil yet that i know of but how much does it cost to have the timing chain gaskets replaced. I'm a college student with a truck payment and don't have much money to spend
Labor is labor....Im not sure where you are located, but around here, norcal, 80-100 dollars an hour is about average. Make sure the mechanic you go through pro-rates their labor cost. Just an idea....

PS sorry if I sounded short earlier, in a grumpy mood then. I appologize if that came out in a bad way.
Sandman,
Nice to have you here at FTE.
I'd call a few local service shops and ask for a price. There should be fixed shop rates for this job. I'd guess they could give you a price pretty easily.
Even call your local Ford dealership Service Department, at least for a price.
yea, thanks. I called around and ford quoted me about 400 and another place said they would do it for a poor college student for 280, plus antfreeze. So i guess i won't drive it except for church on sunday and it will be in the shop on monday. Thanks for everyone's input. I'm just glad i found the source of this coolant smell
Sandman,I hate to say this but you might want to consider getting a price on changing the lower intake gaskets too. These are a major problem on your engine too. Go to Ajs website and read about it; www.leakingfords.com
