71 trans problem
I own a 71swb f100, with an 89 302H/O, the engine is equipped with a huge roller cam, alum. intake, 600 holley, headers and a few more items. My problem is with the C4 tranny. 1st gear is fine going into 2nd, but, when I shift into high, it shifts good and hard, then after a few seconds of full throttle it acts like it is either trying to down shift or lock-up. The cab fills with smoke from the transmission fluid overflowing onto the headers. When I release the accelerator it settles back into high gear. I've had the trans rebuilt twice, both times it had a busted modulator and some metal in the pan. I love my truck, it is a good cruiser but, I like a little performance sometime. Any help or ideas are appreciated. I have the parts to convert to a 4 speed if I have to aor maybe a fmx trans. Thanks
