Well, I think you have all heard this before! I took the truck in for the ICP change and also the newest reflash. After reading here that most were satisfied with it I decided to have it done. Now the transmission is screwed up!!
In tow/haul the converter unlocks as soon as you release the accelerator. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THAT GREAT DOWN HILL RETARDING? That made the truck a dream in the West with 12000 lbs and all the hills. I am getting more fed up with FMC every day.
I know in non tow/haul the converter releases as soon as you let off on the pedal, but in tow/haul it stayed locked down at least 3 gears. Will it be safe on steep grades now or will I really have to rely on the brakes like on the old 1988 I had?
Sure think we should stop being test beds!!
Or did just get a bad flash??
Had mine flashed yesterday. Just got back from a drive to test downshift in tow/haul mode. I can confirm that mine operates as you have described. No converter lockup in 4 and 5 on deceleration.
Just got my reflash and recall done yesterday. Haven't tried the tow/haul mode yet...not sure I want to since I LOST about 25% acceleration power. It doesn't move like it did before the reflash
I noticed the same thing today while pulling my trailer. I never tried the tow mode after I got the truck reflashed. This really sucks because that was one of the selling points of the truck.
Hey guys, it sure would help a smuck like me to understand better are you all reflashing an 03/03, an 04/03 or an 04/04 built 6l engine? I assume that there is a significant difference between flashes in the two entirely different engine/injector/turbo designs and this discussion makes sense only if the posters are distinguishing which flash on what design date and build of 6 litre engine it is that they are discussing. thanx, Greg

Whoa, what's this! I have been following the flash posts and assuming that these updates apply to the '04 engines as well. If this is not the case, what is the current state of the '04s? Is pilot injection still on? Power and mileage all up? The down-hill engine braking still intact?
Have you tried towing with the new flash? I have it, too, and wasn't too happy about the converter unlocking at closed throttle, but it does not seem to have lost much if any engine braking. It still holds the truck and trailer back as well as it did before.
LoneRacer, its new software for the computor. I have mine done 01/13/04. The tranny shifts firmmmer, tow/haul mode works as always and no lost of get & go. I don't know about fuel mpg yet
