i cant get good heat in my truck. the heat comes and goes its not the termostat or the blend door. could it be air in the cooling system.i even tried putting a piece of wood in front of the rad but its still does the same thing. i noticed my temp needle goes up to the middle and then goes to cold
What year and motor do you have? It could be either a clogged heater core, or air in the system. Also, if the gauge goes all the way back to cold, it could be a bad thermostat in that it's not closing quick enough.
i just had similar troubles with mine....heat worked but not great....mine was a stopped up heater core...it was getting hot at the top of the core letting some heat in but it wouldnt get very hot and what heat i had didnt last very long....might wanna take the core out and see if its stopped up...you can remove the plastice plate underneath the dash and put ur hand on the core to see if its heating up....hope this helps...
Ive herd of people getting defected t-stats...but if you have the first gen eplorer (91-94) then i think its just something you have to deal with.....i put 2 new t-stats in mine and it still runs cold it might heat up but then go back down the the first normal check, when its cold out it usually wont get above a quarter....but its an improvement from what it use to be in the winter it use to hover around the first normal check and would not move no matter how long i let it run, i do use 190 but for some reason it just does not want to get hot in the winter, but i still get heat
Put a new termostat in. Sound like your north of the US. I'd put in a 210 termostat in untill summer that way you x will hold the heat longer. Take the heater hoses loose ( around the motor) and backwash the heater core and see if that opens it up. If it does not open up replace the heater core. Don't put anything in front of the Rad. thats what the termostats for.
210 thermostat??? do they make such a thing....that sounds aweful hot to me...if you arent getting any heat out of the 190 or 195 i dont think overheating it will help......215=boiling
I suggest putting a new thermostat in, but do not alter from the 192-195 range. 91X is correct, putting in a 210 (if you can find one) is not going to solve your heating problem, and could damange the engine.
Replace or fix the heater core first. See if that work first then the thermostat. A little trick on the thermostat, lip the outer ring drill a small hole this will help to get the air out of the system and the water in so your not in the snow waiting for the thermostat to open. Just my 2 cent.
