Brake Light Circuit Short?
Right brake light has been giving me fits. The left is fine.
It will work for awhile, and then it will not. When it does not work, the blinker/hazard is out as well. The running lights work ok regardless.
It is not the bulb.
It just started happening this fall. I have the trailer tow wiring harness on the vehicle. When it first happened, I found that the trailering wires did not have electrical signals as well as the light housing. I checked the connections and circuits in the back of the vehicle. I think it is happening up front.
What other connections are there for me to check. Since when it happens I loose the blinker as well, were do these signals come together?
Moisture may play a role, but I've been in raining conditions and it usually works. I've actually had situations were backing in the drive I could see the brake light come on, but when I put it in park and get out to check, it's not working???????
Any ideas folks?
The brake light filaments do double duty as the turn signal lights. The running light is totally seperate(but in the same bulb).
You have a flasher circuit, and the brake pedal switch circuit. These two circuits are fed into the turnsignal switch, where they are mixed together depending on what you are doing(turning, braking, or braking and turning at the same time).
I would check the column wiring, and then the possibilty exists you may have a bad turnsignal switch.
I really appreciate the reply.
Before I go freeze my fingers off working on the beast, would the switch still be a possibility even though the front right blinker works? This includes the hazards as well.
