Hello everyone! I have a 2000 Ranger XL 2.5 Lt. Whenever I turn my selector switch to any position for air it will only blow out the defroster vent.I'm pretty sure it's a vaccuum problem after researching the problem. My question is how do I go about finding these lines and diagnose them to see if thats really the problem??
For safety reasons the system will default to defrost when there is a vacuum leak. Is there a vacuum hose routing diagram under the hood? There should be a vacuum storage canister under the hood. I think that this will maintain vacuum to the system even with the engine shut off. Might want to use about a 3 foot long garden hose like a stethoscope & poke around to see if you can hear a hissing noise with the engine shut off.
It would sure be nice if the automakers would quit "improving" things that dont need improving. The cable operated heat/AC controls in my 87 have been working just fine for the past 221k miles. This is just one of MANY reasons that I wont trade it for a new one.
