Trained 6.0 Tech?

Is anyone on this forum trained on the 6.0 Diesel?

I have a 2003 F 250 SD CREW Lariat Centennial edition with about 700 miles on it. I have a pretty noticable vibration in the engine between 1600RPMs and 1800RPMS. The engine runs smoothly above and below this range.

I found mention of a TSB on this site #16884 which makes mention of this problem and says that it is related to the turbo mounting and the engine RPMs. Anyone know what this is about? Is the turbo loose or what? Spoke to the dealer but no help there. Anyone know anything about this TSB and how to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance for your posts.

I am trained on the VT 365 aka 6.0L powerstroke. I am on the International side of this engine and am not informed on any TSB's from Ford eventhough its the same engine. From my side of this i havent seen any vibrations problems out of this engine. however, i believe that there is plenty of info and people and can best answer your questions. You came to the right place.

The message references a turbo pedestal issue that is creating the moan/drone, not loose, just sets up that irritating noise and vibe, they are still working on a fix....

Emtabmn thanks for running my vin#.
Does this vibration only occur at higher rpms? I can hear something to this affect on idle at times(cold starts mostly)700 rpms or so.
Also is there any other effects other than just an irritating noise?

what you are hearing at low rpm is one of these:

2003-2004 SUPER DUTY F-SERIES/EXCURSION 6.0L - FLUTTER NOISE ON DECELERATION
SOME 2003-2004 SUPER DUTY F-SERIES AND EXCURSIONS EQUIPPED A 6.0L DIESEL MAY EXHIBIT A FLUTTER TYPE NOISE FROM THE AIR BOX/INTAKE AREA ON DECELERATION. THIS NOISE TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN DECELERATING AFTER HEAVY ACCELERATION. THE NOISE IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS ENGINE AND HAS NO IMPACT ON ENGINE OR TURBOCHARGER DURABILITY. NO REPAIR ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE FOR THIS CONDITION.

SOME 2003 EXCURSION AND SUPER DUTY F-SERIES EQUIPPED WITH A 6.0L DIT MAY EXHIBIT A MOAN/DRONE NOISE AND TACTILE VIBRATION BETWEEN 1500-2000 RPM DUE TO TURBOCHARGER MOUNTING COMPONENTS RESONATING AT THE ENGINE FIRING FREQUENCY. ENGINEERING IS INVESTIGATING POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. THERE IS NO SERVICE PROCEDURE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CONDITION AT THIS TIME. NO SERVICE ACTION SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED.

I am guessing that it is #1 due to the fact it did not occur until after the flash I had in Dec and is present at cold idle due to the increase idle speed on cold starts. I have heard it on deceleration since I have purchased truck. Increased idle at cold start probably more air flowing thru air box resulting in noise at cold start. Once warm only hear on deceleration. I guess its kind of operates like a whistle being that it is noticable only when the amount of air flow is present to activate noise. Good to know this. Thanks Emtabmn!

Flounder do not see that you have done this

Go to this thread, read completely…. and post. Follow, on page 3..MLF250’s format, it is good…and easy!
Important update to instructions on page 6, 17 posts down from the top of page.

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
Tell as many as you can about this thread.
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate. Do not need many words. I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.
