I'm looking at a 2002 Alpine CDA-7894 cd/mp3 head unit.
I can pick it up for $250 brand new in the box.
Wondering if you guys have any feed back on the HU?
I Will be replacing the stock speakers with 4 Infinity Kappa 6.5 speakers, no amp or subs.
I like crisp sounds not in to base all that much.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Aug-02 AT 10:55 AM (EST)]I have been using Alpine products for over 10 years. I have had 3 head units, a crossover, and many speakers. Their products are grade A+ and I have never had a problem with them. I highly recommend you get the Alpine. Its what I have in my Superduty.
Got talked into a Sony XPLOD XM-475GSX 4 CH 800 Watt Amp, how many hours should I set aside for the amp install?
Is every input/output marked so I can just plug stuff in?
Now Im thinking I should go with a sub or two, ug!!

All the connections should be clearly marked. You just run rca cable from your head unit to your amp and also an igition wire so the amp will only come on when the truck is started. You also have to run a power wire from the battery to the amp. A ground wire is also required from the amp to the chasis. Make sure you don't run your power wire and rca/speaker wire close to each other.
I don't know if you plan on running the amp for you highs/mids or for your subs. If you use it for your highs/mid you will also have to rewire all your speaker wire so they will get the signal from the amp instead of the head unit. However your head unit should be plenty powerful for 4 5x8s unless you plan on entering any compotitions or something. Let me know what you decide.
Is that sony amp 800watt RMS or Max. Probably max which means it puts out probably 400watt continuous with an 800watt peak. This should be plenty for some subs. I would go with 2 8s and 2 10s or 12s. That combo always sounds great. I recommend JL Audio subs.
