AUTO 4x4

2000 f-250 PSD

Just started to get some snow in this area and this is the first 4 wheel drive vehicle ive had.......and i really dont have anything to compare it to but it seems that when i flip on the 4hi it dont work to well .......ive heard that the hubs are junk on auto cause the vacum could be shot or whatever........so i guess how do i really know if its engaging properlly and working properlly and what do you suggest......do i leave the hubs on auto which they are right now.........or go to lock....and if so....is it as easy as just turing the hub while the truck is in park.....THANKS

It is as easy as just turning the hub when it's in any gear. You should notice a huge difference when you put it in 4x4 unless it's not working which those don't a lot. That vacuum system is so problematic Ford knew you would need a manual backup and that's why the hubs have a manual lock.
