replacing power door lock motor

My ford manual only refers to the door lock itself not the electric one that locks all doors. I cant really see inside what to disconnect but I suspect it is just a clip. After drilling out the pop rivet that holds this to the door what do I replace the rivet with? Can I just use a small bolt and nut? I have a pop rivet gun but no pop rivets. Can I measure diameter of the hole and possibly purchase the correct size? Trying to fix some of the little problems I have left go over the years before there are too many. LOL. Thank you.

aluminum pop rivets are available in most home stores. I would take a drill bit the same diameter of the hole and use that as a gauge for the rivet size.. hope it helps

if you have a bad door lock actuator, you can pick one up cheap at partsexpress.com. you will have to do a little extra work because these are a universal actuator, but they are around 10.00 each.

If you can't find the right size pop-rivet, use a 10-32 by 1/2inch (I believe that's the size I used) nut and bolt to replace it. Grab a few extras just incase you have to change the power window gear/motor - that's if you have that option.
