What do i need to get when I...
Will I need to change gears?
Will i need to get long brake lines
Whats the best lift company to go with?
Anything else i will have to change? If something goes wrong with the lift, will i have a truck that will be out of commision for a few weeks?:-staun
Thanks!
looking at your sig..... you say you want 38" TSL/Radials.... you should regear your truck to 4.56. this ratio will put you somewhere between the stock 3.73 and 4.30 gears available from the factory with the factory 31.5" tires.
>Will i need to get long brake lines
with an 8" lift, the stock brake lines should work....
>Whats the best lift company to go with?
they are all very similar..... i can tell you i am happy with my fabtech and have ridden in SD's with superlift and procomp kits.... i thought the fabtech rode a little better.... but shocks may have had more to do with that?

with an 8" kit you will need to have the front drive shaft lengthened an inch and a half or so.... everything else should come with the lift kit.
something can go wrong with any modification... but these are pretty much plug and play type of kits... so you should only see a few days of down time while they install the kit for you.
You will depending on how big of a tire you slap on, and how much "grunt" you're willing to give up. For example, when I lift (8") I'm going to re-gear to 4.56 with 38" tires. There are others who are running 44" tires with the same 4.56. It all depends on where you'll be running your truck.
>Will i need to get long brake lines?
Not with all lifts, some relocate the brake line bracket to a lower spot, other just have you bend the stock bracket down. If you do need longer brake lines might as well spring for quality stainless steel brake lines.
>Whats the best lift company to go with?
Any of the major companies will be fine (Fabtech, Superlift, Skyjacker, ProComp, National Spring, RCD). I'm still wary about the "new" companies like Full Throttle Suspension...they might be fine for an experienced lift installer, but for the weekend warrior, they might leave a few essentials out of the kit.
>Anything else i will have to change?
If I remember correctly, on an 8" lift you might have to lengthen your front driveshaft. If you've got a crew cab, the lift kit should provide a carrier bearing shim for the rear driveshaft..ext. cab and reg. cabs don't (or shouldn't) need one. Other areas you might have to change: lengthening the breather hoses for front and rear diffs, lengthing the steering shaft (only for mega sky-high lifts though), and you might want to consider beefing up the steering system depending on how you're going to use your truck. If you're going to go *****-out, crossover steering and hydraulic assist should be on your list.

Depends on if you do the lift yourself, or if you take it to a shop. If you take it to a shop, look for one that offers some sort of guarantee on work done. The shops around here have a 30 day "trouble-shooting" policy; something goes funky within 30 days, they'll fix it. Also look for a shop that will provide the after-install maintainence. Just like anything, you've got to let the lift break in and adjust itself; that means re-tightening bolts, re-greasing, and re-inspecting. Something people overlook when planning to lift is where they're going to keep their spare tire. 35" and under really isin't a problem...but do you want to be stuck on the side of the road with the dinky stock spare when you've got 38's on your truck? Lotsa lotas LOTSA things go into planning a lift, it can go really good, or really bad. Just do your homework, ask a lot of questions, and check out what others have, and have done.
I sound like a glitched CD (modern day broken record). But having sold and install essentially every kit currently on the market I highly recommend you go with an Edge kit by Donahoe Racing. You will gain the true advertised amount of lift. The kit rides like no other. And, is guaranteed for life. This guarantee covers the springs against sagging too. Plus the new brushed silver Bilstein 5100s look sweet!
Like Abendx & Munkey said, you can just drill one small hole and relocate your brake lines but I would recommend putting on a set of longer lines at some point. And yes, you will need to lengthen your front drive shaft.
I would also recommend an adjustable track bar. Nearly every kit out there will place your track bar in a bind requiring you to use a come-along to get the bolts in place. This is not conducive to ride quality and usually makes the left front corner of the truck sag as it is being pulled down towards the axle. With an adjustable bar (like the one available from Donahoe) you simply adjust the bar to the proper length and stab the bolts. No bind.
I don't know if your truck is a PS or V-10. If it's a PS you can get away with the stock 3.73s especially if you chip it, but 4.30s or 4.56s would be better. If you have a V-10 then I would go with 4.56 or 4.88s (I'm running 5.13s with 39s).
Hope this helps.

Also like stated above becareful about your factory warranty some places frown on lifted aftermarket stuff! just look around at all the dealers in your town and do some asking around! My dealership was coll with it! They shipped a few superdutys out to the same place I did mine and had the same thing done to them! stuck them right back on the lot for sale! all under warranty! Just do your homework! as for the spare you should have 24hour road side assistance with any new truck so no big deal there! Your truck is just sick, i love your truck. Thats whats making me want a 6" to save a little money on. You pretty happy with your 6"?

Yes I love my lift the truck looks big and is still practical! I think you would be very happy with the 6 inch lift! Like I have said many times lifts are all an illusion if you put the right stuff on it it will look great! the best thing I did on that lift was the 12" rims! they make the tires look great on the truck and are very deep looking! Down the road I want to go bigger BUT I only drive that thing on the weekends!!!!!! I think any bigger you would not like driving it on a daily basis! Just my opinion! I would assume that you want a big loking truck BUT you still want it to be practical! If you have any questions about my truck just let me know I can tell you exactly my whole set up! OHHH and another thing to think about when you start going bigger that 6" you will need to look into drive shaft lenghtening! and possible warranty problems from there! keep asking questions to everyone! hope this helps a little!
Then about a month later, you will get used to it and the way it looks and think to yourself, "It ain't that big" and want more.
Just remeber that it's only you getting used to it, others will still think it's big!!
Think I may have left myself open on this post, we will see where Monsta & Abendx go with it
well ok... when i pull my pants down i hear that, but not from the truck.
as for getting used to it..... i don't go for that.... i love my low rider!!
opps.... 11" and i think she is a low rider?!?!?!
time to go BIGGER!!!!
trust when i say, forget practicality... go f**kin nutz now so you don't end up like me and the loads of others out there that have ended up throwing a lift away because they wanted more....!
personally i suggest you just call up ORU and order a x-over setup, call king and order some shocks, call up highline and order a couple of shafts, and call up national and order a set of 20" springs!
