The chief engineer at my job has a 98 explorer 2wd and a couple of days ago his wife was driving and heard some type of rattling noise so she stopped and when she got back in the suv and started the engine and put it in gear the tranny would not do anything so he had the suv towed to the dealership and they said it had to have the tranny replaced.
He called today and they said when the car was cold the tranny engaged.
Do any of you have any ideas of what it may be.
I believe it may need the tranny filter and fluid changed.
all replies apprieciated.
First, you haven't given enough information to determine what reansmission. Second, you neither own or drive the vehicle and all you know is second hand information. Third, it was taken to a mechanic to repair. This obviously means they have no interest in working on it themselves. Fourth, all the shops just say rebuild no matter what it is. I guess I'm missing the point of this post.
