cleaning fuel injectors
I currently have my injectors out of the vehicle and they are pretty dirty on the outside. Hopefully the internals are OK. My question is to clean them should I just soak them in some kerosene and if so will that help the internals if they are gummed up? Don't know how long the truck sat before I bought it. If I decide to replace can you recommend a good replacement for a 98 f-150 ext 4x4 w/4.6 Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, check out www.Crownvic.net they are GURU'S for those 4.6L I have a 98 Vic with the 4.6 and they have answered MANY questions for me. Just a warning, there are a few nasty people too, just ignore em. As for the injectors, they are VERY sensitive to getting ANYTHING in the plunger, so don't soak them AT ALL. Run a few cans of injector cleaner through them before you go to all this trouble.

i don't know alot about the 4.6l but i work in a diesel fuel injection shop and we also service gas injectors, no do not soak them, if at all possible see if there is anywhere that can test them, we ohm's them first to see if the electrical part of the inj. is ok, if so then we flow them with our test stand that runs cleaning/calibrating fluid threw them as they pulse at different speeds to see if the flow rate is up to par and also to see what the spray pattern looks like if one or all of theese items are bad you need to replace them ! hope that helps a little!
