Steering shaft differences

Ok guys, I need your help. I already posed this question in the steering and suspension forum with no answers after almost a week.

Who can tell me what the difference is between a 4x2 steering shaft and a 4x4 steering shaft on a 88-96 F-150?

The steering shaft i am talking about is the one from the column to the steering box, just to be sure we're talkin about the same parts.

I can't seem to get any answer at all.

I need to replace mine, but the junkyards are fresh out of 4x4 shafts, but have plenty of 4x2 shafts.

Any response is greatly appriciated.

I don't know of any. The columns are interchangeable between 2wd and 4wd, in fact there is no difference. The steering boxes directly interchange between all Ford trucks between 1980 and 1996. The only difference there is the pitman arm on the botton of the box differs for different steering linkage applications (2wd and 4wd for example, or 1 ton and 1/2 ton).
I can't think why there would be a difference in shafts. On 70's trucks there was a BIG difference as 2wd and 4wd used completely different steering setups. There certainly are differences in shafts on other brand trucks such as Dodges, but not the Fords in question as far as I know.
