I have a guesstion about oil pressure. I have a 1985 ford ranger 4x4 2.8 v6 motor. I was driveing down the freeway and toe oil pressure suddenly droped. so i got over and slowed way down and the oil pressure came righ up. It seems to only be droping when the motor is reving up. I just changed the oil and put a new filter in it. no differance.
I have an 83 Ranger that will show low pressure on occasion. The guages aren't real good, but certainly indicate problems. As long as it doesn't drop off to zero, and stays above the red line, I wouldn't get too concerned. It could be a bad sending unit, wiring, or a real problem. If you are concerned, put a different pressure guage on it and see what it does. Did the engine start making noises-get hot-do anything that made you think there is a problem?
The pressure drops way into the red. no noise or anything does not over heat at all. I dont think it is the sending unit cause when i take my foot off the gas the oil pressure comes up.
Got my REAL oil pressure gauge at wal mart for 6 dollars and change. Probably a wise choice! Mine doesnt work either haha, just kinda hangs around the "n" on the word normal. I'll hook up the real gauge sometmie soon and see what happens
Check the wiring. Almost sounds like you may have a bad ground or corrosion in the electrical system. It's an easy fix if that's the problem. Are you having any other electrical problems?
was that post directed at me, him or both, not really any other problems, with the acception of the coolant temp gauge, that pretty much does the same thing, but when the engines cold, it will not register on the gauge, then after it warms up, the needle rises to a little before the "N" and thats where it stays. It seems like its working, cause when my thermostat went out, it actually went up into the normal range, and then the hot range, and then i replaced the thermostat and back down in front of the n it was agian. I'm going to put in a bit hotter thermostat and see what happens
