I am going to put some shelving in my enclosed 20 ft aztec trailer (it's my workshop, equipment hauler, pretty much everything trailer).
It's going to be 2 foot deep, 4 foot wide and 4 foot tall. The first shelf is going to sit about 1.5 feet from the floor, then another at 2.75 feet and then at 4 feet.
i would make a 2x4 frame for each shelf and put 3/4" plywood on it. then use 4 2x4s as the supports in each corner. put it all together with 3" screws and itll hold anything you can put on it.
If you make plywood shelves, screw some 1x1 or 1x2 to the shelf edges to keep your junk from sliding off when mobile. Also, those Rubbermade or dollar store grippy shelf liners are beyond wonderful for keeping stuff stationary.
My preference would be to pick up some used commercial shelving - the kind with galvanized steel shelves & pre-punched angle steel legs. Only I'd bolt the shelf panels in upside-down so the lip does the same job as the 1x1 or 1x2 mentioned above.
Also since this is a mobile application, make sure you use adequate corner braces to keep the swaying in check.
I'd pick up a racing magazine (stock car, or whatever) look in the ads at trailer companies and parts places, then check the websites to see pics. There are some great manufacturers of aluminum racing cabinets designed for race shops and haulers that would give you some ideas of light, yet strong designs.
