As some of you know, I water locked my engine. I got into the lower block and have cracked a piston or two and bent the arms on them also. Well. To get a new lower half it will cost around 7-800 bones, and another 300 to have the heads re-done. Or I could buy a whole new one for 1600. Both will take about 1 and 1/2 months to get here. OR I can get a complete engine (351) out of a 96 truck for 550 and put it into my 95 bronco. Will this convert over? I had a 351 in my bronco too. Some one was telling me that the did the electrical or something different on the 96 models, can anyone confirm this?? Thanks for you help in advance.
what you would do is use all the stuff from your original motor and put it onto this motor from the 96 truck. the swap would be plug and play. might check out this site to for a new motor http://www.ford-motors-engines.com/index.html.
I have a couple of buddies that are mechs that are going to help me. When you say to use all the stuff from the original motor, are you talking about the plenim (SP?) and wires, or everything but the small block?
actually you could leave everything on the 96 motor and just drop it in. use your wiring harness everything will match up. your distributor on the 95 might be different maybe im not sure. you would need to swap flexplates unless the 96 was bolted to the same tranny as your 95. Hell this swap is basicly just plug and play.
well you will only need to swap it out if it looks different then what you have in your 95. you said your friends are mechanics, they will see what im talking about.
no problem, i just did a similar swap in my bronco but i went from a 302 to a 351. it was a bit more involved then what your about to tackle. it took one weekend to pull the old motor and the next weekend to put the new one in. but i did it with little to no help in my driveway. so if you have a couple of people it should go much faster.
late
I don't think this would be as simple as you think unless both are California vehicles. 96 351 has MAF and OBD II. All emissions stuff might be different and you would have to use all that from the old truck. How many miles are on the 96 motor?
thats what he will be doing is using all the wiring from his 95 truck onto the 96 motor. the only concern would be the distributor and the ect solenoids packs that sit next to the coil.
