ok, i had Edelbrock headers on my 2000 dodge ram 318, and i really LOVED them. all but the price that is. better gas mileage, huge power gain it seemed, ran better, but $305.00 plus shipping sucked.
are there any suggestions ( from experience please ) about a good company who can provide some good headers at an affordable price????
i have a staright pipe already, and a k&n filter, and now all i want to do is put in a Diablo chip and Headers when i get the $$$
Borla used to be the best, low cost header/y-pipe system available. Mine cost me $530 delivered. Now it seems that some Borla dealers are charging full retail for the systems now. (over $800) Gibson and JBA make headers also but retain the stock goofey Y pipe. Banks and Borla include a new, free flowing Y.
yeah, $$$ for the headers will be high, the Banks systems i can get through my work, the headers and y-pipe are going to cost about $900.00 and thats even with my dealer discount !!! ouch !!
The Banks does have thick mounting flanges and includes heat shielding and such. They are too expensive but alternatives are few and far between. The stock manifolds and y pipe assy.are a joke compared to the Banks.Installation isn't real fun .

Did you have a lot of problems with the install? Did you do it all by yourself?
My installation was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. Having someone to hold up the headers while starting the bolts is almost mandatory. Other than that, it's pretty much a one-man job.
Nomo,
Yup,all but the right header. The threads were tight and I had to run the bolts in a few turns each without the header to make sure that they weren't cross threading when installing them through the flange. One header bolt on each side wouldn't clear the header pipe in order to place it in the flange hole.I shortened one bolt on the driver's side and had Banks send me a shorter one for the other side. The alignment where the cat intake pipe slips into the Banks pipe was off a bit so I had to cut the crossover pipe a bit to make it fit correctly and I also had to cut a bit off of the tail pipe inlet beacause it was too long even when seated all the way.It is installed 100% correctly now.I also picked the hottest week of the year so far and that didn't help matters any.
It also took me long by myself because there wasn't anyone fetching the tools I needed and I had to check and recheck things several times while tightening all of the connections to make sure everything remained seated and in alignment. If I were to guess it would have taken me 1/3 of the time if I had help.
When I did my 96,460 in 97 my cousin helped and it took one day to install.
Wow! That's a lot of modification to get the system installed.
Mine went together perfectly- just as the instructions said it should fit. Took me two days... first day I was alone, the second day I had some help for 1/2 the day.

I did my few things myself on my truck but I think I'll leave the headers up to the Superduty Headquarters guys here in Mesa. They charge $60 an hour for 8 hours of install.
