I'm thinking about getting a ford Escort I just want to keep the miles low on the pickups.I live 15 miles from the nearest gas station.I have both pickups running EXTREMELY WELL with the 78 300 with just 1,000 miles on as decent rebild.and I have bonded well with both and Collage isn't that far off and It looks like I'll be driving 140+miles a day.My sister HAD a NICE 1998 ZX2 2 door 5 speed With only 34,000 miles on it my dad got it for her for $2650 cash.He let me drive it and I really liked it for What it was.I will never never get rid of my babys I just wan't to go places and not spend $$ for gas and keep'em like new.Where is a good place to look for an Escort?Anything to watch out for??
Thanks,
Dustin
I've got a 2002 ZX2 with a 5spd and A/C. Great little car for commuting and running the roads gas mileage wise. Only thing I did was buy a new radio for it, put some tweeters in the doors, and it's perfect for me.
They're practically indestructible, so I don't think there's anything you have to be careful of. Check for signs of accident damage, and I'd pay a little more if the owner can produce maintenance records ("maintenance-" that's a word you WON'T find in most Escort owners' vocabulary!). I'd watch the local classifieds and buy from an individual, as I can't see any advantage to buying one of these from a dealer. Should be able to buy one of these pretty cheap, Lord knows they're plentiful. Great commuter car for the price.
I'd have to agree with all of the above...I have a 99 zx2, not the best looking car, but it gets great gas mileage...only maint. has been oil and tires...they are the best alternantive to an import in my opinion. 16v dohc variable cam timing..and all for a good price..the even make quite a bit of aftermarket bolt ons for it too.
I am actually a little suprised with mine. It's a 5 spd with a 130 HP 4 banger. Feels pretty peppy with the 5 speed. I work with a guy with a 96 Civic, extra rice on the side, with a chip and cold air intake, and I can smoke him red light to red light all day long. Now, top end he might pull me, but then again, driving ability has a big play in it.
I really am impressed with my little stock car for the price.
Not to knock the Escort, but, with that mileage, the sitting, and the speed you will probably drive you might want to consider a Taurus instead. Especially if you are a person leaning towards big. Say six feet or 250 pounds oo if you might have more than one person with you on round trips or need to carry stuff concealed in the trunk.
My buddy has a 98 zx2 sport, that thing is very quick for a 4 banger. The room is ok up front, back seat sucks. Gas mileage is awesome. Check on ebay as well.
Someone was telling me about an Escort the other day
She really seemed happy about it... then I realized... that she didn't mean the car.
No just kidding
But really, someone was telling me about an escort the other day, very good cars. Im considering one myself
I had a ZX2 for a couple of years and it was a good reliable car... just needed a bigger car... Its a Ford always driven one and hope to always drive one
ive got a 94 Escort wagon LX thats up for sale (it was a freebe that needed a little work) their a little on the small side for me I woould get a touris (sp?) just my .02
we got a 95 ford escort LX SPORT, and i could not ask for a better running car, and the thing does over 110 mph. i know that for a fact because my wife passed me one day when i was in my camery doing 110 mph. although i think i could take her in the top end. but besides the timing belt breaking 2 times i love that little car, mileage is excellent and the ride isnt bad at all. i think we only paid 5000 for it 5 years ago.
