I thought that would get your attention. I cannot seem to find 5w-20 hardly at all in my area (north Houston). I usually use Castrol syntec blend 5w-20 but only one area store carries it. So far I have tried 2 wal marts, 2 O'reilly's, 1 Auto zone and 1 napa.
Auto zone did not even have a 5w-20 product tagged on the shelf. Since Ford is recommening this weight in the newer engines, where are you finding it? It doesn't seem to exist in my area that I can find.
I have seen other forums where folks found the Motorcraft 5w-20 at wall mart. I have also bought Motorcraft 5w-20 at the local wall mart ($1.75 or so as I remember) in the Maryland area. Not sure why some wall marts carry a specific product and not others.
I can find the regular Castrol 5w-20 on occasion, but the store that sells it only carries 5 bottles on the shelf when the shelf is full. That's inconveinent to have to make multiple trips plus I prefer the syntec blend. When I switched to it, the slight valve chatter I experienced upon startup when cold has completely gone away.
Other than the ford dealership (over $3/qt) which apparently knows they have a monopoly in this area, I cannot remember seeing a single other manufacturer of 5w-20 oil in the are.
i used to have to order mobil 1 filters off the internet before autozone came that being it is still a hike....id order 5 for my mustang and 5 for explorer that way hold me for a while
tkd, walmart all over the houston area stock 2 and often 3 brands of 5w20---motorcraft and usually a couple of other brands. Go to the superwalmarts for the best selection. i am in SW houston but i have purchased 5w20 at walmarts up on I45 North/Greenspoint and 59 North/Humble areas.
