5w-20 doesn't exist

I thought that would get your attention. I cannot seem to find 5w-20 hardly at all in my area (north Houston). I usually use Castrol syntec blend 5w-20 but only one area store carries it. So far I have tried 2 wal marts, 2 O'reilly's, 1 Auto zone and 1 napa.

Auto zone did not even have a 5w-20 product tagged on the shelf. Since Ford is recommening this weight in the newer engines, where are you finding it? It doesn't seem to exist in my area that I can find.

Thanks,

Motorcraft 5w-20 Semi synthetic is what ford is recommending, available at your local ford dealership...They do sell it over the counter.

tkd,

I have seen other forums where folks found the Motorcraft 5w-20 at wall mart. I have also bought Motorcraft 5w-20 at the local wall mart ($1.75 or so as I remember) in the Maryland area. Not sure why some wall marts carry a specific product and not others.

I can find the regular Castrol 5w-20 on occasion, but the store that sells it only carries 5 bottles on the shelf when the shelf is full. That's inconveinent to have to make multiple trips plus I prefer the syntec blend. When I switched to it, the slight valve chatter I experienced upon startup when cold has completely gone away.

Other than the ford dealership (over $3/qt) which apparently knows they have a monopoly in this area, I cannot remember seeing a single other manufacturer of 5w-20 oil in the are.

This sucks

Peppy,

Thanks for the link, but the closest advance store to me is 85 miles away according to their locator.

I get mine at Wal-Mart for $1.77/qt. if you can not find it, you can not find it. Just use 10w30.

The '02 had the same engine in it and thats what it said to use. They did not change the engine any. The change was made for the EPA.

Tell your retailer to get some stock on the shelves so you can spend your money. I'm sure they wont say no. Or you can make the 85 mile road trip in hopes of finding oil and a good place for dinner. Or, you can change oils. Plenty of oils out there that are as good or better.

Wal-Mart in my area carries Motorcraft 5w20, for $1.77. And, Motocraft is a synthetic blend. For that price, it makes it an economical change.

If you are operating your truck in hot weather like texas, then consider using a 30 weight oil. You do not HAVE to use a 20 oil like it says.

tkd, walmart all over the houston area stock 2 and often 3 brands of 5w20---motorcraft and usually a couple of other brands. Go to the superwalmarts for the best selection. i am in SW houston but i have purchased 5w20 at walmarts up on I45 North/Greenspoint and 59 North/Humble areas.

You should use what the manufacturer recommends. But you can use a 5w-30 w/o any problems. 5w-30 is what Ford recommended before 2000 in 5.4L's.
