a few questions
Have had my 04 f-250 6.0 psd 4X4 for about 2 months now. 2900 miles and have some questions. First thing I want to say is I am very happy with the truck. My dad just bought an 04 6.0 and his is not doing any of these things.
1) On very cold starts (below 20 degrees) truck has a very rough idle almost like a race car with a huge cam in it. This lasts for about 2 or 3 minutes.
2) After warm truck has a slightly rough idle (seat of the pants shimmy) but this does not happen all the time and I cannot figure out conditions that set it off.
3)After driving (hot motor) on shut down there is what I would describe as a spinning rattle in the exhaust system that I believe to be the turbo spinning down. Like I said my dads new truck does not do this but I do not want to make a big deal with dealer if it is normal.
I have talked to dealer they say to bring it in to get flashed for 1 and 2 problems but I have read some horror stories on here about more problems after flash than before.
Well I guess I will finally get to point should I get truck flashed and does anybody else have rattle in exhaust system on shut down. Thanks you for your patience and for your Help. Andy

I've had my 04/04 about the same amout of time as you and I have not had any of the problems you are describing.
The only real problem I see with mine is a little smoke on cold starts and turbo whine when it kicks into high idle, but I really love the turbo sound.

It all depends....
Are the problems YOU are experiencing bad enough to 'chance' what the flash will could do to your truck?

My '03 Ex had minimal problems and when they 'suprised' me with a flash in Mid August I WAS LIVID !!!
MPG went down 3 mpg,
power went down seat of the pants 10%,
And since they had messed with my truck with one flash, I hoped they would fix it with another...
but engine idle noise went up after one of the other flashes....
Don't get me wrong, the Ex is still the best travelling vehicle around, but it SHOULD (and used to be) better !
So caveat emptor DUDE !
