302-351W conversion

I have a 79 F100 which had a 302 (God rest its soul at 175,000mi) up until last Wednesday. I came across a 351W in good running conditon, but I would get motor and trans only. What will I run into electrically to convert my truck to a 351? I know the firing order is different - anything else?

Thanks much,
Joe12Pack

Joe, need a little more info as to what your new 351W has for an induction set-up {carb,EFI, etc}. Other than that, exhaust and oil pan are the only diffs that might be any problem. 351W replacing 302 is a great swap for a truck!

The firing order is the only diference. I did the swap twice, once I swaped the 302/c4 out of my 2wd for a 351w/c4, the other time I swapped the 390/c6 out of my 76 f-150 for a 351w/4-speed. If you have any questions just ask.

And also search the 73-79 forum, it has been explained several times there too.

I had never seen that message (no search for non FTE) before but it looks like a (hopefully) short term problem. Try a google search though, it usually dredges up several links to FTE threads.

The oil pan is a side drain and will need swapped- both engines are carbed so I am really hoping for a 'plug n play' (though I know that never happens in my world

Google searches do bring up a lot of FTE forum posts (how I came across this site in the first place) Thanks to all for your replies and I'll let you know how it goes.
