Pricing GRILLS
I have to opportunity to buy either a chrome or painted one for a 65 F100 ; price range between $250 & $400; picture's alittle blurr and hard to see if no dents / damage..
I got one from my local junk yard and only pay $25; but it was a ruff painted one but very soild with a small ding above the drivers Head light Bezel; had it sand blasted and spray chromed; doesn't look bad but not like new.
Have not seen the chrome 65 grill. Believe the Custom came with the aluminum anodized grill. Have seen them on ebay on occasion. A used one recently went for about $85 included the entire front section. Needed some minor work.
Picked one up at salvage yard for $40, pic n pull, where buyer removes the item. Checked around and found it would cost between $250 and $400 to have the grill reanodized. The plater discouraged having grill chromed. Any how, cheap scape that i am, purchased some anodize stripper, made some minor repairs, then used extra fine sandpaper to bring out the luster of the alum. Not sure if you can use a polich to get bright shine, because need to use clear coat sealant to maintain the luster of the alum finish. Found the aerosol can worked fine and the clear coat a must. Kind of labor intensive, but have since installed and feel it came out nice for $60.
Don't know what area you reside in, just saw another 65 alum grill in salvage yard in No. Ca. (south bay) couple days ago, but it needs to be removed.
Anyhow good luck,
dave

Aluminum (what is often incorrectly called chrome) grilles are worth more than painted steel. They are less common and much harder to restore, so having a nice one is valuable. Painted ones can be straightened and repaired prior to repainting with traditional methods. Aluminum ones require a lot of finesse, stripping the anodizing, polishing and then (optional) coating again.
Nice used grilles that are straight are worth at least $100, though I won't tell you that you can't find 'em in the junkyard for less. Depends on the year sometimes, as the earlier the grille the harder they are to find it seems. Plus, most earlier grilles tended to be painted.
I'd be real hesitant to pay over $200 for a used grille. I've seen NOS ones go for $300-400 depending on what they are. If it's really cherry and aluminum, maybe $200-300. But I'll tell you that the Ebay price seems to be around $150-200 for most.
I've got a '63 grille, aluminum, straight but used I want $125 for if that helps. Some think it's cheap, some think it's right on. Depends who you ask. (And to anyone interested, no, I won't ship it).
Its in a local junk yard off of my old 66 (I sold it, ended up there)
Its in very good shape, I was going to get it, but I have the "chrome" grille and Im going to just clean it up
Thanks for all the insight's and keep driving....
