I opened up the tailgate and noticed that there is a cut wire going from the tailgate key lock to nowhere. I assume it is supposed to be connected to the tailgate window motor, but I have no idea where.
I am going to assume this is acommon problem with the bronco because I found the same thing on mine.I honestly forgot about it until i read this post.I'll do some digging and see if we cant solve this problem. Now that I remember I would like to fix mine.
You don't mention what year, but typically there is a whole bundle of wires back there...window up, down, safety interlocks, rear defrost, etc. It could be a disconnected wire or a whole host of electrical or mechanical gremlins.
In four years I've had my tailgate apart three times, once because the gear drive in the motor broke, then the wires at the motor connector corroded and lost connection, finally the key switch shot craps and had to be replaced. Oh, and also, the up-down switch broke loose in the dash so I had to pull that out and JB weld the plastic...just don't know the power of my index finger!
1990 Eddie Bauer 4x4 Bronco. Had manual windows though which seems odd for an Eddie Bauer to have. It's got power windows right now, but they're aftermarket and the manual crank hole is still there.
Going back to manual windows ASAP, except for tailgate of course.
Anyway, I'll have to take the tailgate panel off again to see what color the wire is, but as I recall there are 2 wires connected to the motor, a black & a white I think and they run into the cab somewhere. Then there's the key lock which as I remember only has one black wire sticking out about 4" & connected to nothing.
If you cant get what you need from tha site, let me know. I have the wiring diagrams on my system for your year truck...I can email em to you. Just remember, if you put your email in a post on here...the forum policy will remove it from the post. You have to type it in without the @ symbol.
Thanks guys... I got a Haynes manual from Autozone which has all the wiring diagrams, but I'm having trouble finding where the tailgot actuator is. Man it's touch to make since of wiring schematics.
In the Haynes manual, there are 10 pages for the wiring of your truck. Look at the bottom of the diagrams...you will see what year and what page of what page for that year. Yours will be on page 10 of 10 on the diagrams for 90-91 Broncos. The switches and motor are located at the bottom left of the page.
