Has anyone tightened up their steering box? Wandering has been addressed before, but has this adjustment improved anyones truck??
I was driving the PA turnpike with all it's construction and jersey walls and really had to work hard to stay in my lane w/o smacking the wall or another vehicle. The 18 wheelers don't even blink and here a am working a pick-up like I'm off roading? Did not make me feel secure with my boys in the back.
Original tires and 33k miles? Steering box adjustment may work?
There is a proceedure to tightening up the box that really should be followed.....not the easiest job in the world....
you can see whats out of adj or worn if you have a trained eye for that kind of thing..Usually steering wander is from worn linkage. Usually..If there is play somewhere a good mech can find it. I would not touch the box unless you see that it has slop in it and then do it properly by the book.
Sounds like good advice. I saw on another thread about simply loosening a lock nut on top of the box then turning the allen head about an 1/8th of a turn? have you heard of this?
Nope don't touch unless you do it right....Which means disconnecting from down below pulling the steering wheel off and using a torque wrench on the steering shaft adj the box until you get the correct torque...
Thanks for the info.! I'll have a mechanic look at it for sure. Most of the time the wandering isn't bad, but in tight spots it can be a real pain! Stay warm up there!
I don't know which is worse, not having a garage or having one that your truck doesn't fit into! We have a two car, but mine won't fit, but her Suburban will! Built the house before the F250, really got to keep up on the wax!!!
