The company I turn wrenches for bought 3 new 2001 F-250 SD's last year. We have about 12 to 13K on them. All have run flawless, but one is experiencing excessive tire wear, front and rear. They have General tires on them. I rotate the tires every oil change, 3000 miles or 90 days. The tires are worn straight across the tread. No more wear in the middle than there is on the inside or outside edge. When I drove the truck to the dealer, since it was under warranty, the front end had a good shimmy in it at about 45mph. So anyway... they call me back and say it needs new tires. NO DUH! That will cure my problem with the front end shimmy they say. Ok I say, but what about the wear on the tires! Only 13k and they are wore to the indicators! OH WELL they say! BUT we can install a rear dampner to cure that and they quoted a price. SO! My question... has anyone else out there experienced tire wear like this with General tires?
Alignment was good. The loads we carry are open, dual axle trailers with lawncare equipment. The trailers are well balanced. The service rep at the dealer said "rear dampner", maybe a glorified swaybar of some kind. But as was mentioned... maybe it is the driver as the other 2 trucks have plenty of tread left. Thanks for the replies and I'll post back and let you all know the final outcome.
I know a guy who leased an F150 and had all four factory crapola tires replaced in 13,000 km or less. They didn't wear out they seperated and or otherwise became defective Don't remeber the make but sure were crapola.
Tire wear problem solved! While making a highspeed turn around a blind corner... well anyway.. suffice to say, its a goner! Hmmm.. gotta wonder again about the driver... Anyway.. no one hurt, totalled truck and trailer. Driver fired too! Thanks all for the replies and I'm watching the other trucks closely for wear.
