On my 03 ex is there an easy way to get the air filter out. I can get it but its all plastic of course and the old force it if it doesn't fit may not be the best???
I tried to get mine out the other day. After several minutes I said **** on it. Took the accordian hose off, disconected the MAP sensor, took off the filter minder, took off the front 2 inch hose. It may sound like a lot, but all that took less than 5 minutes. Then the entire assymbly pulls right out. With everything out gives you a good chance to inspect the wiring out around there. Slips back in just as easy.
I took my air filter out and never put it back in. I installed a new air box and filter. I got 2 MORE GPM and it runs a lot better. http://www.portadiesel.com/products/60l/airintake.html

I was able to wiggle the filter OUT after about 10 minutes of messing with it, but there was NO WAY I could get the new one in...soo...I log on here and find this advice. I considered removing all that stuff but didn't want to hassle with it; you know how it goes...remove one part that's in the way and before you know it you have half the engine sitting on the driveway!!
Once I saw that you disconnected the MAP, minder and 2-inch hose and everything slipped back in easily, I gave it a go. I also removed a small breather hose running from the radiator back to a reservoir on the firewall that was in the way.
Dum me i thought that they only put the 6.0 in 03's
Coulda been a 5.4 or a 6.8 gasser too, that's why it's always a good idea to list your vehicle with the necessary specs...trim, 4-wheel or 2-wheel, size engine and type, etc...in your sig.

My airbox clips are broken, so it's a good excuse to get a kit.
If they've been broke long, better be saving for a new turbo (and maybe more) as well.
The Ford AIS intake (by Donaldson) is the best choice IMHO. At under $200, it filters the air better than most options available and flows plenty of air for all but the most built engines.
