hi, i just have a question about truck boxes, i've had my 1980 Ford F150 since october 2003, and i'am starting to restore it, so far i have the cab of the truck almost done, i've replaced the rear shocks already, now i have to focus on the box when i bought the truck it had a wooden flat bed on it, and i want to buy a original truck box, but my question is where would i find an inexpensive truck box, i don't care if it is used or new, do i have to have one specially ordered or can i got to a salvage yard and get one?
one of the best places to go is your local utility company (phone, power, etc.) They will usually buy trucks with beds and then remove them to put on a utility bed. You can sometimes get them for dirt cheap in brand new condition.

That used to be true up until the late 90's when they finally changed the 3/4 and up trucks to the new body style. Now everybody brings in new trucks to have the utility beds put on, and the don't match.
For an exact match, look for 1980-1986. For a close match, the 1987-? will work work. The only difference is the wheel-well opening is round instead of flat on top.
I would imagine someone may reproduce a new bed if the demand gwets high enough. In my part of the country, you CANNOT find a bed in these years that hasn't rusted. I replaced my old bed with one that was in pretty good shape, and now it's falling apart before my eyes with rust.
A trailer shop just down the road from my house has a few. I could ask how much if you wanted kinda long way to drive just for a box.(im in Amarillo TX) Look for any shop that puts flat beds on. might have to go to some small towns around you to find one. If not cheek in small town junk yards what kind of box do you need ie short, long, flare
