Hi all, looking for some help with my 95 Ranger 2.3, 5 speed. 2WD, 80,000 miles. This is the newest truck I've ever owned, a far cry from the FE powered Fords I'm used to working on! When starting the engine cold it starts immediately, but revs what seems to me exceedingly high (no tach, but I'd guess 1200 to 1500 RPM). It only does it for a few seconds, but it seems like this would be a little hard on it, especially in zero degree weather and no oil pressure built up!
I've had the truck for 2 years and put 24,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance, a new set of plugs (8 plugs in a 4 banger ), plug wires, and a timing belt at the recommended 60K, I've done nothing to it and it's been a great little truck!!! I know nothing about EFI or computers on these trucks and don't have any idea where to start. Or do they all do this? I never get any kind of check engine light or anything so I haven't been too worried about it yet...but if it's abnormal I'd like to fix it before it makes me trouble!
My truck will rev a little bit on the high side for the first few seconds when it's cold. I think it may be something to do with the PCM re-adjusting to the cold conditions that it hadn't experienced when the engine was hot when it was parked.
Thanks, I appreciate your input Maticuno. Guess if mine isn't the only one that does it I won't worry about it yet. Just don't want to hear it hammering anytime soon, have a year to pay on it yet, lol.
