Fuse Panel

I am an owner of a 1973 F-100. The fuse panel housing has become brittle and is slowly falling apart. I went to the salvage yard to find another fuse panel but ther only one they had was for a 1979 F-100. I was wondering if I would be able to adapt the 1979 fuse panel to my 1973 wiring. I have a Haynes manual with both truck's wiring diagrams and have pretty much mapped it out.
My question is what wires from the 1973 do I use to "feed"
the buss on the 1979 fuse panel? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I got the underdash wiring harness. It is a no-brainer hooking up the accessories because they are color to color. I'm just having trouble trying to decipher what wires are my feeders for the fuse block. I can't seem to find any correlation between the 73 and 79 wiring specs.

Correlation 74-79,

NO and you won't either. They are different

So you need to know what wires power up the fuse block for distribution?

Not which wires leave the fuse block to power systems ?

Mil1ion,
Yes that's exactly what I need to know: what wires power up the fuse block for distribution?
Not which wires leave the fuse block to power systems, except for the heater/AC wires.
Sorry about posting same topic in 73-79 forum. I thought if anybody would know they would. They know these trucks inside and out.

I assume you don't have a service manual of any kind ?

There should be a 10 gauge Black/yellow stripe wire that goes to the starter relay (Battery post).

In fact along with that one any wire with a Round holed connector should got to the relay (starter side post) .

One goes to the ignition switch.

Mil1ion,
No I dont have a service manual, just a Hayne's.
Can you clarify what wires from the 73 I need to hook to the fuse panel to power everything else?

I don't have a wiring diagram for the older trucks. But your feeder wires will be thicker than the others. And you will have one for "hot all the time" that goes to the starter relay(battery positive). Dennis said this wire is black yellow. On the later trucks it is yellow.

I am not sure, but this same yellow wire may split off and feed the ignition switch too. Or, the ignition switch may have it's own "hot all the time" feeder. Coming out of the ignition switch should be a wire that feeds the fuse box for "hot only in run" power. I don't know what color it may be, but it should come from the ignition switch.

Thanks guys. I have installed a 1979 fuse panel in my 1973 truck. BTW my main wire coming from the starter relay was black/green.
I hooked up all the accessories and the heat/AC and everything worked! Now all my dash lights, dome light, cig lighter, everything works.
