Changing front axle oil...uh-boy...

Changing front axle oil...uh-boy...
What is the best way to remove the oil from the front axle carrier? The useless Chiltons manual says to remove the cover (as is the procedure for the rear dif) but the front dif appears to be bolted up to the entire left axle arm. Am i missing something here or do i need to buy a suction gun to get the oil outta there?

On the bottom of the differential case there is a flat spot. I drilled and tapped it for a 1/2-13 bolt and use a copper washer to seal it. I used a drill press after removing the differential from the vehicle when I changed the axle U-Joints. Works well. Before the drail plug I used a small hand pump to pump it out.

Now THAT's a "better idea"...you should work for Ford (do you recall the old Ford slogan?) Why didn't they do that in the design department. Guess i'll pump the stuff out until i decide to pull the whole dif out...thanks for the tip.
