My '02 Lariat's driver seat is wrinkling very badly in my opinion. It gets the most abuse. This is my first Lariat and I really did not want the leather for that reason, but the truck had everything else I wanted, so I took the leather. Am I just not used to leather, or will it wrinkle pretty good normally? I am using LEXOL cleaner and treatment and it seems to help smooth out the wrinkles, but after a week they come back a little worse each time. My seat covers are on order, so this will protect the seats a little better.
What's everybody's opinion on Ford's leather???????
(ps, I am 6'4" and 250 something pounds, so I do overpower most everything I sit on )
I have had a couple of Ford trucks with leather, they seem to all wrinkle with seat time. Must be a leather characteristic. I have a 92 De Ville, seats wrinkled and creased but ultra comfortable. I am about the same size as you, 6'6" 250. Ford Lariat seats are hard, the more seat time you put in the more comfortable they are / get. I had a 1998 F150 Lariat that had seats as hard as a brick. Make your tail hurt after 300 miles. The seats in my new 02 PSD Lariat are much more comfortable than the ones I had in the past. I can ride Birmingham, AL to Houston, TX . A twelve hour ride, seats very comfortable.
Good to hear from you Oneof6! My seats are very comfortable! They are a little stiff though, I guess I just have to get used to the natural "wrinkle" of the leather. Everybody tells me that "leather wears in, not out" Guess I just have to get used to the fact that they will wrinkle and just enjoy them. Thanks!
Ford uses very cheap leather, My '97 f150 had cracks in it when I sold it 2 years ago, and now my '99 has cracks in it..I think im going to get some better seats or maybe just some covers..
Sure looks good when new!. I like the leather, but not the wrinkles. Guess I just have to deal with it. My cloth seats I have always had never wore out though. I probably won't buy leather next time around, but I do still like it, it just looks bad when all wrinkled up.
When I was reuilding my 99SD, I bought the leather kit from ford, it has ford motor sports embroidered on the back of the seats.
It seems a little heavier grade than what I have seen in other SD's.
2years and no signs of wear or tear.
Hey, YETI!, I was thinking of buying the original covers from Ford so I could replace mine, at least the fronts, with OEM covers when the time came. That way I could have the exact match for my model. Maybe I will look into the Motorsports aftermarket and see how they look. I most likely will just wear mine out then replace them then. Thanks for your info.
