Need help to id a part
on my 86 f150 w/ 351w
Between the firewall and engine, there is this 3/4" pipe with some sorta module screwed into it, This part sits right behind the right side valve cover. and the pipe goes from one side to the other side of the engine. at the top of this part there is a 3/4" round opening in it with a tiny fan in it, and it sounds like there is an exhaust leak coming from it. when I put my thumb over the hole exhaust leak sound goes away.
Can anyone tell what that part is, and its funtion to the exhaust system??? the chilton dont discribe the part.
Thanks Al

If this is the air pump system, you will find the pipe has a fitting bolted behind each head with a bolt. What I did with mine is take it off, cut the pipe off the flange, and made a block off plate to sandwich between the flange and the head, and bolted it back on. I seem to remember somebody writing in saying you could orient the flanges differently, and it would block the hole off. Some people use freeze plugs to plug the hole in the head, but I guess they had the engine out when they did that.
You could be right, I'll have to follow the pipe to see where it ends on both sides.
The air pump system has been disconnected since, I own the truck. That's over a yr ago. I never had a problem with it. I wonder! could it be some kinda of air check valve? that is screwed into that pipe.
And also is there some kind of heat resistance tape I could use? there is no real pressure coming out of it, It just makes a plopping sound.
Thanks Al

Thank for the reply: f100guy
the egr valve that is attached to intake manifold under the carb is , and has been disconnected since I own the truck. and no, the tube is metal, and the part that looks like a module is a few inches away, but below the egr valve on the right side, standing infront would be the left side.
Thank's Again, Al
