I have a 2001 F-250 auto V10 with manual locking hubs and manual 4x4 engagement. I have 2 questions. My truck shifts from 4hi to 4lo easily (stopped in neutral) but I have to push the lever pretty hard to get it out of 4lo (stoppped or rolling slowly in neutral). Does anybody else have this problem? And just out of curiosity, what happens if you lock 1 hub and forget to lock the other one?
My 2002 has the fancy dial selector, but my '84 f250 HD with the New Process 203 transfer case would also require a little muscle to get out of 4L. After some 230k miles of beating the hell out it, it always worked fine.
I have the same situation with getting it out of low but I dont really worry about it, it comes out.
As for the locking one hub and not the other, it should pull to one side. I havent experienced it but it has happened when I disengage 4wd on my ATV and it just pulled to one side...
And just out of curiosity, what happens if you
>lock 1 hub and forget to lock the other one?
It will send the power to the unlocked side, because of the open front diff, and act like it's in 2wd.
I have experienced occasional difficulty with shifting out of 4lo. I grease the transfer case linkage once in a while. It also helps to routinely engage 4wd to keep all those parts lubricated.
I may be reading wrong, but I think I had a similar problem. Try putting your foot on the brake. It may have a shift lock type setup. That seemed to work for me. I don't go into 4 lo often at all. I can't really remember.
