I have a Craftsman 3.5 ton floor jack. It takes three or four pumps to get a vehicle to start going up. Without any weight, one pump lifts the jack to the frame but once it is in contact, it takes three or four pumps to start to get it to lift. Is there an oil resevoir I can add to or is there air in the hydraulics?
I have a Craftsman like that.It takes one pump to the vehicle and then it takes a lotta pumps to lift.I use my old( 26 yrs. forget the brand) jack most of the time.
The Craftsman Pro floor jacks have a two stage pump. They are designed to be one pump to the vehicle frame and then lift like a regular jack the rest of the way.

if it's a new jack, there may be some trapped air bubbles. Look at your instruction pack that came with the jack and it has a procedure for getting rid of the bubbbles
I don't have a craftsman jack. I don't buy small stuff like that. I got a big 5 ton floor jack. Item# 14518 at http://www.northerntool.com . A big plus with a jack this size is it makes it hard for the brother in law to come over and borrowing it.
