upgrading wheels

I have a 1993 F-250 HD 7.3L diesel. I would like to upgrade the stock steel wheels with a set from a F-series that are 16X7 and have a 8X170mm bolt pattern. My biggest issues are that I'm not real sure on how to measure the bolt pattern and that my truck has the full floating rear axel which has the large diamature hub that sticks out about six inches from the brake drum. Would I have to get wheels for this model year or would I be ok as long as the center hole was large enough and the bolt pattern matched? Thanks in advanced for all of your help.

Otter,
I'd call a couple different tire/wheel shops to confirm what lug pattern you have. Does your owner's manual state it under "specifications" or ???

I sent you an E-mail off-line, BTW...

Your 93 has a 8 lug on 6.5" wheel with 3.625" backspace. the 99 and up 8 on 170mm wheels have the same backspacing but the bolt circle does not match, it's bigger than on the 96 and below trucks. Also, your 93 has 9/16" studs whereas the 99 and up wheels use 14 mm studs, that's close enough but not exact. You either need to find a 1980-1997 F250/350 set of wheels or buy an aftermarket wheels with 8 on 6.5" pattern.

You say close but not exact.....so are you saying that they will work without modification or are you say that I would be better off getting the right wheels to start with??? Thanks in advanced for you help.

The studs only are close but the wheel pattern isn't close at all. You just won't be able to mount a 99-2004 F250/350 wheel on your 93. I understand that the vans still use the old Dana 60/ 8 on 6.5 pattern like your truck, even the 99-current vans. I just bought some wheels myself to upgrade my 03 with steel wheels to the XLT upgrade aluminum wheels. I don't know if you want to keep the "stock" look but I did so I wanted Ford wheels. The place where I bought them also has van wheels that would fit your truck. Take a look:

Otherwise if you don't care about having Ford wheels, Weld makes the SS II and Outback that looks pretty close to what the current F250's have.
