well i'm up to 44'000 miles and no improvement on milage.10-11 is all she will do.i've tried a k&n filter system and amsoil 5-20 oil.keep the rpm's below 2000(if possible)as much as possible.drove to nebraska with the cabover on(est.1500 lbs) and got 8 mpg.any ideas, other than a new truck!
my rig has the same mileage as yours on the odometer. I average about 11.5 to 12 driving around town. The best I have ever done was 16 and that was doing 5 below the speed limit. (65). Dont know what to tell you but that sounds about right to me.
i get around 12 mpg city and 16 mpg hwy. that was before my 285/75's we shall soon see how much i get then . i can understand your 8 mpg with the cab over. i would guess closer to 10 mpg though. i am not an aggressive driver unless evoked , so im very easy on my acceleration which is where i think most mpg is lost on hard take-offs. i try to keep my rpm's at or below 1800 from a stop(traffic light), yea it takes a while to get up there but i think its worth it, and probably save your tranny and drive componants from excessive wear and tear.

I would say that is about right driving with the cabover. Mine gets about 12 unloaded and loaded with 1500 lbs of stuff... Around 12. I think the drag caused by the camper is killing your mileage. BTW, mine is a 99 5.4 2wd with 4.10's. KP
I get 14mpg combined. Took a road trip during Xmas and got 16.4mpg. (my truck spec's below)...
I'd have it checked at the dealer or a reputable/certified mechanic's who KNOWS Ford computers and fuel delivery.
Have you checked the simple stuff like: changing fuel filter; tire inflation; is your tire size calibrated with your speedometer/odometer?; fuel injectors serviced? Sometimes we overlook the obvious (like me with the catsup on the refridgerator door: "honey, where's the catsup???" Doh!)
I'm in the 10-12 mile range also. 10 miles on any gas in town, but 12 miles if I fill up with the co-op gas. Any time I know I'm gonna get on the interstate, if I can, I always drop the tailgate. '99 5.4 4X4.
