Used my dad's '02 Explorer last weekend while at the hunting cabin and the beltminder drove me nuts. I'm an on-road seatbelt wearer but when I'm getting in and out of the truck every few minutes for whatever reason, I don't wear one.
Does anyone have the code or the sequence to disable this thing??
It should be in the Owner's manual. There is a lengthy sequence of turning the key on and off, buckling and unbuckling the belt, throwing salt over your left shoulder, and hopping on one foot blindfolded.
I had my fill of that Beltminder on boat ramps. I really can't wear a belt when I'm all twisted around looking backwards, and the combination of the Beltminder and the reverse parking sensor things is just about enough bells and whistles to make you go postal
Those things are worthless. Most people wear a seat belt when they know that it would be prudent. But when your just moving it a little or driving a few blocks say for a milk or mail run that dang thing just keeps honken at ya. Its in the manual on the 04 on how to disable it. I don't know if its the same on the 02 or not but if you can't find it repost in this thread and when I get the notice about your post I'll find it and post it
The noise is there for a reason. In Jersey it is now a primary offense that can get you pulled over. Besides, 99% of all accident happen within 5 miles from home. So, if you just moving your car, that's one thing. If your driving around the block... how much of a problem is it to put the seat belt on. Is you life worth the esxtra 2 seconds? Sorry about how this posts sounds, but I have lost a couple of friends because they did not wear their seatbelt.
Oh, I understand why it's there. But the last time I went up north I went for a relaxing 2-track off-road drive on my property with the dog to check the condition of the hunting blinds. I was taking in the scenery enjoying my beer when the DING DING DING's started and I ended up with a lap full of Miller.
FYI I found the procedure to disable it. Thanks y'all!
