Emissions Recal 03E03

Well I got the recall in the mail and after reading all these posts I am not sure what to do .Living in R.I. its about 9 out right now. not bad!!!
She smokes pretty bad on cold start but goes away after 5 min or so. Miliage is good considering its a 12.5 gvw 03 reg cab dump DRW 4x4. 6.0 PSD.
Got 585 miles on first tank and a little less now do to cold weather. No flashes I know about, since I just got it in November as a left over built on 4/03.
Reading some of this stuff about injectors has made me sick as I am not sure if I have the older 94c or 95c.
Just wondering if I should have this recall done or not??
I don't want to loose power or worse.. mileage either.
I had a 01 reg cab p/u F-350 7.3PSD and ran great with no smoke at all but traded it to the dual wheel for landscaping purposes
Any input??

I would have the latest flash done, make sure the dealer has the latest!!! It will help with power and mileage, you do have the c94's.

Go to this thread, read completely…. and post. Follow, on page 3..MLF250’s format, it is good…and easy!
Important update to instructions on page 6, 17 posts down from the top of page.

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
Tell as many as you can about this thread.
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate. Do not need many words. I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.

Thanks

I have an 03 Excursion 6.0L PSD (March 03 Build)

Just had 15,000 mile service down at 12,300.

Had updated flash (old one was October)... but I am not sure if I got December or January (which somebody said came out)???

Dealer said that their WDS machine is connected at all times via the net for immediate and/or nightly updates from FMC. The service writer and tech did not know which was updated, but whatever one is was done since they update daily from FMC.

Now for the good news....

December (or maybe January)? update has shown the following improvements (or changes) over the October flash.

1) Highway mileage shows 19.0 on overhead computer.

2) Actual mileage vs fuel computed at 20.7 MPG.

(Using #2 winterized with Power Service winter additive for freeze protection and cetane level).

(Outside temp was 32 F to 39F) during driving).

3) Tip-in and Tip-out is firmer with NO lag.

4) Shift points were raised slightly.

5) Idle remained the same, but does slightly run up to 1,000 for cold starts, but drops back down to 600 - 700 RPM's.

6) Idle will raise if temperature drops of idles for a long time. Touch the brake or gas peddal, and RPM's drop back down.

7) A little bit of turbo "wine" is now heard, but not bad - sounds like a 7.3.

All in all, I am very happy with the latest flash (Dec or Jan??). The pro's out-do the cons.

I recommend the latest FLASH!!!!

Good luck to all... Keep Strok'n (I know but I couldn't resist).

Thanks,
