I don't think it is a balance problem. Make sure the tire has the proper air pressure first. I would take the truck to a local tire shop that carries the brand of tire that is on the truck and let them look at it. How does the other front tire look? Any signs of a problem? When driving down the road do you feel the truck "pull" to one side or the other? This good either be an alignment problem, depends on what the other front tire looks like, or a problem with the tire itself.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Aug-02 AT 07:56 PM (EST)]When you say cupping you mean if you run your hand backwards on the outside tread you feel bumps or different levels correct?
if so, yes chk air pressure.
But get the truck back to the dealer.
With only 3,000 miles on it
To chk the following:
alignment
bad ball joint on that side or loose!
or a bad shock combined with a wheel balance.
It could be a balance problem, tire out of round problem or even a rim out of round issue. The steel rims that came on my 02 were,IMO, basically garbage as far as trueness is concerned.

Yes, but did they tell you that Ford will only align your vehicle ONCE during that 12 month/12000 mile period?
Make sure they get it right! If they just throw it on the alignment rack, and don't fix any other items that may be causing the problem, you will have to pay for any additional alignment work.
most of he time it seems to be a alignment problem. yes they will only give you 1 alignment under the 12-12. if there is a part i.e. bad tie rod end, that has to be replaced under warrenty, then the second alignment is still covered due to a bad part. so you are still covered 3 yrs 36,000 miles at least.
